Avoiding the CEO Route After Earning an MBA
Over the years, MBA schools have produced many of the leading, influential chief executive officers (CEO) around the world. Along with this trend, however, a notion developed that many CEOs are overpaid for their jobs. A good example is the incident of the Lehman Brothers collapse, which resulted in a general disdain of excessive CEO pay. As a result, some people are looking to avoid CEO positions and pursue other career paths. Here are some great career paths you can pursue while steering clear of the dreaded CEO stereotype:
Entrepreneurship
One path you can take is to being a businessowner. This is a great way to put your MBA education to good use as you try to build your own business empire. Whether you decide to go for a small business or you intend on expanding to a large corporation, this is a path that gives you freedom to pursue your entrepreneurial dreams.
Venture capitalism
Venture capitalism is another area where you can succeed with an MBA degree. Use your knowledge of business to make educated investments that can earn you loads of money in the long run. The best part? You won’t even have to deal with working under another person.
Consultancy or education
Finally, perhaps one of the most rewarding paths you can take with your MBA schooling is to go into consultancy or education. One of the best things you can do with knowledge is share it and sharing of knowledge, expertise, and experience is at the core of consultancy and education.
In the end, no matter what you do, you should make sure that it is something that makes you happy. If you think you would be happy in a CEO job, don’t write it off just because of what others might think. And if you really aren’t into becoming a CEO, then consider one of the options above.
